How do I get paid as a captain on CharterXO?
Captains on CharterXO are paid directly through Stripe, with payouts sent straight to your bank account after each completed trip. You’re compensated based on the agreed duration and rate set with the boat owner — and you keep 100% of your pay.
Unlike other platforms, CharterXO takes no commission or service fee from captain earnings. You do the work — you get the full reward.
How are voyages assigned to me?
Boat owners assign captains from their approved list or invite you directly. Once assigned, you’ll receive a trip request notification in the app with all details — boat, customer, time, and special requests. You’ll have 48 hours to accept or decline. If you decline or don’t respond, the owner is notified to assign someone else.
Can I control my availability?
Yes. You can set your availability directly in your calendar — down to specific days and times. This ensures that you only get trip requests that fit your schedule and helps avoid double-booking or last-minute surprises.
What are my responsibilities before and after a trip?
Before the trip, you’ll complete a pre-departure checklist to confirm the boat’s condition, safety gear, and fuel. After the trip, you’ll submit a post-voyage report with any damage, maintenance needs, or notes about the experience. These reports help protect you and the owner, especially in the event of a dispute.
What if there's an issue or damage during a trip?
If something goes wrong, report it in your post-voyage checklist and notify support within 48 hours. CharterXO collects a deposit from the customer 48 hours before the trip, so if a claim is filed in time, our support team will review the case and use documentation (waivers, reports, chat logs) to resolve it fairly and quickly.
Do I need to bring my own insurance or license?
Yes — all captains on CharterXO must hold a valid U.S. Coast Guard license and meet any local licensing requirements. While the boat owner provides the vessel’s insurance, you’re expected to maintain any personal coverage required by law or by the nature of your work.
Can I work with multiple owners or boats?
Absolutely. You can be listed as an approved captain on multiple boats across different owners. Each trip you accept appears in your personal calendar, so you can manage your schedule easily and avoid overlap.
Can I communicate directly with the customer before the trip?
Yes. Once assigned, you’ll have access to in-app messaging so you can coordinate trip details, preferences, or safety reminders with the customer. This ensures smooth communication and avoids misalignment on the day of the trip.
What happens if a customer doesn’t show up or is late?
If a customer is significantly late or doesn’t show up, document the situation in the app and contact support. CharterXO tracks time-stamped logs and waivers, and your report will be used if there’s a refund or payout dispute. You’re still paid for your time if the issue wasn’t caused by you.
How do I join CharterXO as a captain?
Just download the CharterXO app, create a captain profile, and submit your credentials (license, ID, etc.). Once verified, you can be invited by boat owners to their approved list or referred by another captain. There are no sign-up fees or commissions — you earn full pay from day one.
