Every vessel listed on CharterXO undergoes a verification process that includes vessel registration review, insurance verification, safety-equipment checklist, and photo documentation. Captains submit their captain documentation (a valid USCG captain's license — OUPV or 50/100/200-ton Master — is strongly recommended, with STCW if applicable) and pass a background check. CharterXO reviews each captain's paperwork case-by-case; the credentials required depend on the vessel, passenger count, and local regulations. Verification is redone annually and after any reported incident.
Safety, Trust & Security
Your safety is our absolute priority. Period.
Every boat and captain on CharterXO is verified before listing. Safety requirements include USCG-compliant safety equipment (lifejackets, flares, fire extinguishers, VHF radio), current commercial insurance, and CharterXO's own pre-charter safety checklist. A valid USCG captain's license is strongly recommended for captained charters; CharterXO reviews each captain's documentation at sign-up and the specific credentials required depend on the vessel, passenger count, and local regulations. Here's what that looks like in practice.
100% AI & Human Vetted Fleet
Every boat on CharterXO undergoes a rigorous verification process powered by both AI and human review. We leverage AI to reduce human error and perform thorough analysis of each vessel, checking registration and insurance validity before a listing goes live. We also provide owners with ongoing guidance to maintain their vessel and intelligently suggest maintenance when we identify a need.
Trusted Captains
Every vessel comes with a recommended trusted captain who has the right credentials to ensure you and your party are safe and have the most enjoyable experience on the water. We verify each captain's identity and confirm they hold the correct boating credentials for the region they operate in.
Secure Payments
You never have to transfer large sums of money directly to a party you don't know. CharterXO acts as the intermediary, securely holding your payment until your trip has been successfully completed. Funds are then released directly to the owner, captain, and crew members individually after trip completion.
Safety FAQs
At minimum, every charter vessel must carry USCG-compliant lifejackets for every passenger (including children's sizes where relevant), visual distress signals (flares or electronic equivalents), Type B fire extinguishers, a VHF marine radio, a first aid kit, a sound-producing device (whistle/horn), and navigation lights. Larger vessels and offshore charters require additional equipment (EPIRB, life raft, etc.) per USCG regulations.
CharterXO captains are trained to respond to medical, mechanical, and weather emergencies. The primary response is the captain's onboard judgment and USCG Coast Guard contact on VHF Channel 16. CharterXO's 24/7 support line provides secondary coordination and immediate communication with charterers' emergency contacts. Every booking includes basic trip insurance; additional coverage is available.
Vessels on CharterXO must carry commercial charter insurance that covers passenger liability. Specific coverage limits vary by vessel and charter type (captained vs. bareboat). Charterers can purchase additional trip protection at booking for cancellation, medical evacuation, and lost-item coverage.
The captain has final authority on go/no-go based on wind, sea state, lightning risk, visibility, and small-craft advisories. CharterXO supports captain's decisions: charters canceled for weather receive a full refund or free reschedule. Marginal conditions may result in a shortened or modified charter route; the captain will communicate any changes before departure.
